THIS IS JOHN! Dr. John was born and raised on a dairy farm in the Reedsburg area. He graduated from UW-Madison Vet School in 1999... Yes, a long time ago!... and has been practicing large animal medicine in Reedsburg ever since. Dr. John lives on a farm with his wife, two sons, and daughter. He enjoys working with his herd of Red Angus. When he’s not at work at Sunrise or on the farm, his family keeps him more than busy. Dr. John was a winner of the 2013 Wisconsin Dairy Professional Award. Dr. John started Sunrise Veterinary Services in 2004. At that time, Dr. John was a one man show working out of his home and vehicle. In 2009, Dr. John felt the time was right and he opened the doors on his first office building and hired his first employee. Eventually Sunrise outgrew its home, and in 2013 |
Dr. John opened the door on the present clinic only 2 buildings down from the original location on S. Albert Ave, Reedsburg. Now Sunrise Veterinary Services has grown to include six veterinarians working to keep both large & small animals at their best.
Reproduction in cattle is one of John's main interests, but he really just likes to work on anything involving cattle. But one of John's truly favorite things about work is getting the chance to joke and tease people including both his clients and his staff. John is always laughing, joking, and living it up. Follow the sound of laughter and John is surely near by.

Dr. Darren grew up in Green Bay and started working on farms in high school. His experience there and in college led him to Vet School. After graduating from UW Madison with John in '99, he began working at a dairy practice in Colby, Wisconsin. Marriage and family brought him to Lodi.
After needing shoulder surgery, Darren decided to get even closer to the family farm and try to slow down a little. With an opportunity opening up in Reedsburg, the time seemed right. Darren has a strong interest in dairy and is continuing to learn the beef world. He sees every day as a challenge to learn new things. He also enjoys teaching clients and students one-on-one during farm calls. |
Dr. Natalie is a 2013 graduate of the University of Illinois. She grew up in Northern Illinois on a beef and crop farm where her parents still reside. After graduating, Dr. Natalie worked at a mixed practice in Southwest Wisconsin for three years before joining Sunrise Veterinary Services in 2016. Dr. Natalie enjoys helping us out with both small and large animal medicine so she can be found in the clinic or on the farm! She has a special interest in small animal surgery. Another favorite of Natalie's is razzing Dr. John and the Small Animal staff here at Sunrise. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Natalie and her husband enjoy kayaking, hiking, trail riding, and spending time with their 2 children. |
Dr. Mary is our Small Animal Veterinarian here at Sunrise. She grew up in Elkader, Iowa on a hobby farm with dogs and horses. As early as kindergarten, Mary made the decision to be a veterinarian when she grew up. Unlike most of us, she followed through with her childhood ambition and graduated from the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She worked in a mixed clinic in Richland Center for 10 years before starting at Sunrise in 2016. What Mary loves the most about working at Sunrise is the atmosphere of fun and camaraderie that is pervasive within the clinic. Mary has a strong interest in preventive medicine and small animal dentistry. Dr. Mary currently lives in Richland Center with her husband, two children, her Labrador Dachshund mix (Toad), three horses, and ten fish, and her 600 composting worms. When not working, Dr. Mary enjoys horseback riding, cross country skiing, camping, and spending time with her family. |
Dr. Marla grew up in the Mt. Horeb area around farms, pets, and the animal industry. She was in grade school when she made up her mind to go into Veterinary Medicine. After graduating from high school, Marla attended UW Madison, where she graduated from vet school in 2015. Marla worked in Central Wisconsin at a mixed animal practice for her first year out of school, but was happy to have the chance to join Sunrise where she works as both a large animal farm vet as well as with the pets brought into Sunrise. Marla has a cat named Cleo, whose hobbies are sleeping and cuddling. Outside of work, Marla enjoys baking, sewing, and spending time with her family and husband. She also enjoys getting a chance to visit with her cousins on their dairy farm in Cross Plains. |
Kathy has been with Sunrise Veterinary Services since 2009 as our Administrative Assistant. She started out with Dr. John when he first opened an office in Reedsburg. Kathy had worked in the business field for many years, but is enjoying this opportunity to work in the field of animal service. She thoroughly enjoys working with the clients of Sunrise Veterinary Services, both on the large animal and small animal sides of the business. Kathy grew up in a large family on a farm outside of Reedsburg. She and her husband Mike have two grown children and two grand-daughters. Kathy enjoys a brisk walk, exercising, and working in her garden. She and her husband share their home with two rescue cats. |
Lexi grew up in Webster Wisconsin, but moved around with her family a bit including some time spent in both Louisianna and Texas. She moved to this area during college. Lexi comes to Sunrise having had vast experience in working with cattle. She has worked milking, as a calf care-taker, on a feedlot, and as an artificial inseminator, not to mention the many other duties she's covered over the years. One of her employers milked over 8,000 head!
Lexi is currently living in Reedsburg and is studying to get her Veterinary Technician certification. She is also working on getting a head start on a show and beef herd which includes Red Angus and Short Horns. Lexi joined Sunrise in 2019 and is helping out in several areas. She works both at the front desk as well as helping out on farm calls and with pet work at the clinic. Lexi especially looks forward to going out to help the doctors process herds at the farms. She doesn't mind hard work and getting her hands dirty. When she's not working, Lexi enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and barrel racing. |

Abby works for Sunrise as both a Receptionist and a Veterinary Assistant. Abby has always been around animals as she grew up on her family's dairy farm in the Linden area. She knew right from the start that her love of animals and desire to work with them was the direction she wanted to take for her future. Abby pursued college at UW River Falls, and she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science with a Meat Animal emphasis and a minor in Agricultural Business. Abby began her career as a Veterinary Assistant in 2015 and started with Sunrise in 2017. Abby's favorite thing about working at Sunrise Vet is that every single day is different and she never knows what to expect. Abby enjoys her time both in the office as well as when she gets a chance to work with the vets out at our producer's farms. As you can see, she really gets into her job...and other ummmmm "stuff" too! And all with a BIG SMILE and a GREAT ATTITUDE! At this time, Abby is living in Dodgeville with her mixed breed Chihuahua Dachshund cross named Roo. In her free time, Abby enjoys hunting, spending time on the farm, and being with her family. |

Darci is a Certified Veterinary Technician here at Sunrise. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician Program at Globe University in December of 2015, and then went on to pass her national and state boards the spring of 2016 (Woo Hoo!) Darci really loves spoiling the animals that come into the clinic, educating our clients on their pet’s health, as well as the technical aspects of being a Vet Tech. And she REALLY loves it when people bring in food for her to eat. (Hint Hint!) Another one of her favorite parts of working at Sunrise is getting endless opportunities to antagonize Dr. John. Darci currently lives in town with her husband and two dogs (Cooper Eugene is pictured here and Russel is pictured above with Dr. Mary.) When Darci is not working, she enjoys reading, painting, and watching her favorite TV shows. |
